Saturday in Haight-Ashbury

On a Saturday that forecasted rain but turned out pretty nice, and a little sunny, called for an afternoon trip to Haight-Ashbury.

It was my first time going to Haight, I'm sure quickly driving through don't really count as going, I am was pretty excited to go!

For anyone who doesn't know (and you really should, so shame on you!) Haight-Ashbury was the centre of the hippie movement, drawing musicians, artist, peace seekers and free lovers into San Francisco in the late sixties, early seventies. Its safe to say you can see why so many people couldn't keep away.

The area just has this aura about it, and feels like it hasn't changed in decades- most of it probably hasn't.

First vintage store-

Decades of Fashion-

Second Vintage store-

Wasteland-

I was told there would be some great vintage shops, lots of second hand, reworked stuff but I did wonder how much of it would be authentic, or ridiculously over priced! I was very pessimistic to be honest, like most 'vintage' shops in the UK, I assumed everything would be second hand rubbish with a £40+ price tag.

Well.... I was very surprised! It wasn't. I mean some stuff was, most things I found to be pretty reasonably priced, and actually vintage. Washed out t-shirts upon washed out t-shirt of seventies band, cool slogans and more. I was in my elements, especially as they started at $11!

I do crave that laid back, somewhat hippie vibe sometimes and Haight Ashbury really does feed that craving.

There is expensive curiosity shops side by side with Goodwill, and other thrift shops. There is something for everyone.

I could wander around all these beautiful places for hours and hours, picking through the rails, taking photos, capturing the moments, imagining who might have worn it before (slightly strange I know), but I love it.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't like all my clothes to be second hand but I do like the idea of an item of clothing having a story behind it. it own little piece of history.
