A trip to sunny Redcar

My parents and I spent the past few days visiting my Grandma, who lives in the seaside town of Redcar. I enjoy visiting my extended family, getting out of the house and out of Hull!

A trip to see my Grandma is never complete without a shopping expedition to Middlesborough, about a half an hour drive from Redcar. It’s the nearest place for good shopping and a wide variety of shops (as much as I like Redcar, the high street is terrible!)

I, of course, found many things to buy, my favourite being this beautiful felt coat! While quickly browsing what H&M had to offer, I came across it, on it’s own, hiding in the racks. I was drawn to it instantly, despite it being quite different for me, and because of this I had get my Mum’s option. After a quick try on and realising there were definitely no more of these coats to be seen, I made a very keen purchase. (I think it was bought online and returned to the store, I hadn't seen it in the shop near me)

It will feature in another blog post, styled much better (!) but while me and my parents when for a little stroll along the prom, before we left Redcar to head back to Hull, it was perfect to keep me warm while the freezing October wind blew straight off the sea. The rest of what I’m wearing is a two-and-a-half-hour-car-journey-appropriate-outfit, COMFY!

As you can probably tell from the pictures, controlling my hair in the fierce wind was a challenge but I really do enjoy seeing the sea before heading back to the city, the Humber doesn’t really compare!

If there are any avid film watchers reading, you might recognise a little bit of Redcar Scenery. The band stand, a few buildings, the beach and the old fashioned cinema were used in the film ‘Atonement’ with Kiera Knightley and James McAvoy, for the ‘Dunkirk’ part of the storyline. There is a small statue facing the sea in ode to the filming that took place. I think it is such a lovely thing that this little northern seaside town featured in a ‘Hollywood(?)’ movie.

Redcar may not have a lot to offer, or look the prettiest but it holds a special place in my heart. I spend summers playing on the beach with my family and went for walks along the same beach with my granddad, who is sadly no longer with us.

As much as I love to travel and want to see much more of the world; it is the places that have a special meaning to you, that will stay with you forever.
